THE ETHER – Prelude No.1 THE ETHER is a reflective sonic-aphasic (dis)rhythmic meditation in the form of a prelude (for cello, dance, waste, air, wind, body and breathing). The piece comprises of 7 distinct yet complementary slow movements that explore the atmospherics and metaphysics of untamed syntaxes of time, space, voice, rhythm and breathing. The prelude speaks of stillness, becomings, luminosities, value, respiration, and body fluids, as it investigates the ghostly presences/absences manifested in the landscape through sound, dance, gesture and silence - whilst responding to the secret ontologies of inanimate objects, architectures, the politics of dreams as well as, the echoes and ethics of the modes of operating things. Conceived as an ode to the poetics of slowness, suspension, divinity, unfitness and wait, The Ether echoes the uncapturable, and echoes Tetine's recurrent and unconditional love for Beckett’s philosophical theatrics of existence, un-communicability and non-performance.

She has recently been awarded the Joan Scrutton’s Awards for Young Musicians in the UK to study at the prestigious Guildhall Junior School of Music and Drama. Yoko has written and performed the original music for The Ether - Prelude No.1. INTERNATIONAL ONLINE ARTISTIC OCCUPATION Artistic occupation that will show every Monday, at 5 pm GTM-3, the experience of artists from different areas and different places, which they gather to create from a distance and immerse themselves in an experience of language displaced from each artist's "common place", in addition to thinking the Internet itself as a creative and amplified possibility.

[PT] O ÉTER - Preludio No.1 O ÉTER é uma meditação sônica-afásica reflexiva (des) rítmica na forma de um prelúdio (para violoncelo, dança, resíduos, ar, vento, corpo e respiração). A peça é composta por 7 movimentos lentos, distintos, mas complementares, que exploram a atmosfera e a metafísica de sintaxes indomadas de tempo, espaço, voz, ritmo e respiração. O prelúdio fala de quietude, devires, luminosidades, valor, respiração e fluídos corporais, pois investiga as presenças / ausências fantasmagóricas que se manifestam na paisagem através da som, dança, gesto e silêncio - enquanto responde às ontologias secretas de objetos inanimados, arquiteturas, a política dos sonhos, bem como os ecos e a ética dos modus operandis das coisas. Concebido como uma ode à poética da lentidão, suspensão, divindade, incapacidade e espera, O Éter ecoa o incapturável e ecoa o amor recorrente e incondicional de Tetine pelo teatro filosófico existencial de Beckett, incomunicabilidade e não performance. TETINE é ELIETE MEJORADO e BRUNO VERNER. BRUNO VERNER é um compositor, artista e poeta brasileiro radicado em Londres. Com ELIETE MEJORADO, formou o TETINE - um organismo híbrido tropical-mutante-punk-funk nascido em São Paulo em 1995. TETINE'S WORKS CENSORED IN FASCIST SAO PAULO.

Last week TETINE were censored by a white male misogynist-hygienist manager in a hierarchical vertical command of a building that was once an institution of real pleasure, magika, sex and dream, not a commercial architectural doll of hashtags in the form of a shopping mall. This is how our two FEMININE 'pieces' "Wild is the Wind" and "All the Mornings of the World'"- the first on the murder of women during the military regime and the second one, a temporal/terminal map of life, gozo and death, orchestrating the circulation of emotions in the centre of São Paulo during the late 80s and early 90s, during which time the two of us lived in the central zone of SP [Eli at the COPAN building and at Louvre for a while, and I at Praça da Bandeira with Rua Santo Antonio and Av. Nove de Julho on the Saint Patrick building, the one glued to Ed. Joelma] - were torn from the COPAN wall where they had been living for a week and a half as part of exhibition 3 Act - o verso, led by the Museu do Louvre Pau Brazyl.

The fascist asshole is called Affonso with two Fs. He felt offended by the content and told the organisers that the wall was his. Could not bear the WOMEN,  the mapping of the saunas, the friends who died of AIDS, the porn cinemas, the bathrooms, the galleries, the cancer, the melancholic happiness of Anhangabaú, the late night bars, the restaurants. And then said COPAN is A-political. The Museu do Louvre Pau Brazyl had permission to display the works and re-installed both works.  A little later they were plucked by the wall again.

This is to inform that next Thursday May 2nd at 14;30 at Praça Roosevelt we will release our black semiotics, that is the kites of the two works in a visible and transparent action BY THE AIR in collaboration with the children of CASA 1. This work originated during the process of residence at the Louvre Pau Brazyl in November last still in 2018 during the Trials of the Third Act.
The air is still yours.

Sobre o Vento / Wild is The Wind is a workshop / conversation on the wind and for making/ flying kites led by Eliete Mejorado of Tetine at Casa 1 in Sao Paulo during her residency and as part of the programme proposed by Museu do Louvre Pau Brasyl.

"Estruturalmente, estou imaginando algo como uma introdução de uns 20 minutos com música e fala sobre o Vento e sobre suas ‘forças’. O porquê dessa historia das pipas agora nesse momento e um pouco do trabalho que venho fazendo no Tetine… quem sou, de onde venho e para onde estou caminhando….Depois eu queria propor um exercício de respiração, de meditação -  para sentirmos o ar, o vento e a respiração juntos com as crianças. 

Em seguida, queria que as crianças desenhassem nas sedas …   algo que gostariam de mandar para o vento… para celebrar ou expurgar um desejo, um trauma, um medo, um amor, uma historia, um esquecimento, uma falta….

Depois confeccionamos as pipas para soltarmos. 

A oficina é sobre fazer das pipas-coração."

TETINE feat. DEIZE TIGRONA ao vivo no SESC BELENZINHO em Sao Paulo

Tetine vem ao Brasil apresentar a performance Queer And Mutant Funk Cuts com músicas de seus mais recentes lançamentos, incluindo produções de sua trilogia sonora "Tropical Mutant Punk Funk". 

No repertório do show, booty-queer-electrofunks, dark sambas, tropical-mutant-punk-funks em meio a intervenções acústicas e outros estilhaços experimentais, passeando por momentos distintos de sua discografia. Muitas das canções do show representam também as primeiras produções essencialmente e assumidamente queer do duo. Algumas dessas músicas lançadas originalmente nos álbuns Bonde do Tetão (Bizarre Music) e L.I.C.K My Favela (Kute Bash/Slum Dunk Music), discos subterrâneos e pioneiros na mistura politico-sexual de funks autorais góticos, queer punk, bass-culture e musica experimental,abrindo espaço para o desdobramento de uma nascente cena 'kuir' brasileira de música eletrônica e performance.

Como participação especialíssima no show, o Tetine convida a poeta e funkeira Deize Tigrona - também conhecida como Deize da Injeção - que participará da performance em momentos distintos. Tetine e Deize Tigrona colaboraram pela primeira vez em 2004, na gravação da faixa "I Go To The Doctor".

Diamanda Galas in Brazil in 1998

Em 1998 Diamanda cantou 'Gloomy Sunday' ao vivo em Santo Amaro, zona sul de Sao Paulo. Eu e Eli que organizamos a parada. O cenário.... era um circo-palco pequeno com o piano rodeado de velas, o mic quadrado dela + um técnico de som que operava os delays e efeitos de voz dela. A performance aconteceu em Santo Amaro, um show de graça dentro do festival Mundao com a plateia mais sensacional que SP ja presenciou.... com todos os tipos de gente e não só os 'modernos', 'artistas', 'curadores' etc etc .... muito pelo contrario a plateia era do funk, do rap, do hip hop... gente que nunca tinha ouvido falar nela, mais passantes, fumantes, bebabos, vendedores ambulantes que circulavam pelo espaço que ainda era de fato publico... uma mistura de GENTE inacreditável, e não só os 'Safatles' que sabem de musica nova e se comportam bem em sala de concerto. Toda vez que ouço essa versão, fico arrepiado e epifanizado e me lembro da potência real que foi aquele novembro 'sono-anticristo' desajustadamente quente e gótico. Tenho certeza que isso nunca saiu da cabeça de quem esteve la...um verdadeiro sabbath de 1 h & 20 minutos inesquecíveis.

O BANDIDO

Here's a piece of tropical crude thinking we did on the occasion of the performance Tetine Vs O Bandido da Luz Vermelha back in 2011. 

"O Bandido" is a song we wrote in the summer of 2011. It came up as an inter-semiotic free  rework of the narrative & dialogues of Rogerio Sganzerla's film 'O Bandido Da Luz Vermelha' (1968) which Tetine re-scored live in its entirety back in 2011 at Sesc Vila Mariana in Sao Paulo. O Bandido first ever live perfomance counted with cinema marginal's musa Helena Ignez who shared the stage with us and sang it with Eliete. It's worth saying that we also wrote O Bandido as love declaration to Helena.

Researcher Bruno Mendonça invited the duo of Brazilian artists based in London - Tetine - formed by Bruno Verner and Eliete Mejorado, to be the first ones to exhibit in the glory hole space. With a multimedia production, the duo present a hybrid and trans-disciplinary vocabulary crossing languages and boundaries between the worlds of music, performance, video art and text.

Raree Show ("rarity show") can be traced back to early modern times (15th century in Europe, by Leon Battista Alberti) and are known in various cultures. A raree show could be a wooden box with a hole or several holes, containing a set of pictures which the show-man could set into a viewing position by pulling a corresponding string. The boxes were often decorated inside to resemble theatrical scenes. The show was accompanied by spoken recitation that explained or dramatized what was happening inside. In Ottoman Syria a form of peep show called sanduk al-ajayib ("wonder box") existed, which narrated stories about contemporary figures and events, or showed scenes of heaven and hell. In contemporary use, a peep show is a piecewise presentation of pornographic films or a live sex show which is viewed through a viewing slot, which shuts after the time paid for has expired. 

In Raree Show 1 the duo will present the audio installation 53 Diamantes : A collection of black stories, crimes, falsos-brilhantes & other poems, composed of sketches of spoken word and sound experimentations that make up a narrative that moves between the fields of poetry, literature, theatre, film and novel. The sound pieces are like chapters or acts of this narrative. The work can be thought of in an expanded form, as a book, a film or a play. 

Throughout the first semester of 2015 the glory hole programme will be curated by Bruno Mendonça and will have as guest artists, artists such as Cristiano Lenhardt and Annika Larsson, amongst others.

Giving continuity to its conceptual proposal, Galeria Jaqueline Martins inaugurates in 2015 the glory hole project.

glory hole stems from the gallery’s research-oriented programme, establishing itself as a platform of ideas and practical and theoretical experimentation.

The space reserved for special projects, that has a different guest curator every semester, gives curators and artists of different generations the opportunity to materialize their research, carrying out exhibitions with a strong experimental character.

Located inside the gallery’s building, glory hole presents a scale and dimensions that deviates from the conventional standards of architectural exhibition areas (2,15 x 1,38 x 0,90 cm). Using projects such as that of the NuMu museum – Nuevo Museo de Arte Contemporâneo de Guatemala, as well as the historic L'Attico by Fabio Sargentini as a reference, the space also relates to other national and international projects and platforms which have used different types of architectural spaces for the exhibition and reflection on contemporary artistic productions.

TETINE PERFORM RIO BABILONIA IN SAO PAULO

Tetine are in Brazil to perform a brand new score for Brazilian 80's 'funk cult  classic' RIO BABILONIA by Neville de Almeida. 
The performance takes place at the theatre of SESC SANTO AMARO in Sao Paulo & is part of the project Alem CINEMA - a huge  retrospective of the works of filmmaker / artist Neville D'Almeida. 

Expect to see & hear - the uncut version of RIO BABILONIA - with new music for piano, electronics, drum machine, manipulated voices, bass guitars & vocals. 

RIO BABILONIA is a crazy saga of power, corruption, lies, cocaine, sex, black beans, gringas & music exposing the politics, politicians & the mechanisms of Rio's social elite of the early 80's starring Christiane Torloni, Pedro Aguinaga, Jardel Filho, Paula Vilaça & 
Denise Dumont.
Apart from this Tetine are equally delighted to be back in Santo Amaro after so long. We had the pleasure to curate a programme for MUNDAO - the first project/festival to take place at SESC Santo Amaro exactly 14 years ago with Diamanda Galas, Tetine, Scanner, Cibo Matto & Drugstore all performing for free for thousands of people in the area!
